About

Welcome to globalfoodie.com!
If you are a foodie, you don’t need a definition. If not, well, there are telling signs. My mother, Rose, was a “foodie” before macaroni became pasta. She gave me what no cookbook ever could; a love and appreciation of food, its preparation and its cultural heritage. Although she never realized it, she probably knew as much as any cookbook author. Some of you probably do, too. She is one of the reasons I started globalfoodie.com.

There is another reason why globalfoodie.com was launched into cyberspace. After a lengthy visit to Europe I finished my various magazine assignments, but still had heaps of menus, restaurant notes, recipes and food-related news I wanted to share with like-minded people. There just weren’t enough places to put it all.

Every trip has only increased the piles of paper in my office. On globalfoodie.com, I can tell you about the macaroni pie and flying fish from Barbados, explain haggis, share Vietnamese recipes, relive French cuisine at its best and go on and on about Italian food.  Globalfoodie.com is an outlet for a group of handpicked, savvy travel and food writers who also want to share those spectacular restaurants, incredible edibles and information they’ve discovered. We’ll save you a seat at the best restaurants and around the tables of great home cooks, and then give you a few select recipes. Since we think every country and continent is visual fare too, we’ll throw in travel-related articles.

Globalfoodie.com will also serve monthly stories, columns and reviews. So, travel with us as we take you to restaurants, home kitchens, and chefs anywhere from Asia to Australia.

All the writers and columnists in these pages are foodies. Some cook, some don’t; but every writer here knows a good meal and a great food find, whether it’s in a Michelin star restaurant or in one of Ireland’s best pubs.

Become a part of globalfoodie.com by watching as our site grows and by sending us your favorite recipes. We’ll publish these gems—whether it’s your own concoction or your ancestor’s favorite treasure. We’ll add your name and a bit of the recipe’s history. We’re storing these in our cyber larder right now. When we have enough we’ll start a recipe index for those who want to experiment or just travel through a gastronomic experience.

We’re launching globalfoodie.com with what will become a monthly “Cookbook Giveaway.” Send your name and address to denise@globalfoodie.com and we’ll pick a name—from a chef’s toque, of course—and award some lucky reader a newly released cookbook.
